Description

A New Understanding: The Science of Psilocybin by Roslyn Dauber follows the revival of clinical psilocybin research after decades of prohibition, with particular attention to depression, trauma, and end-of-life distress. Instead of treating psychedelics as a counterculture relic, it stays close to researchers, patients, and the medical setting in which these sessions unfold. The documentary gives unusual weight to cancer patients facing mortality, so its focus lands less on recreational curiosity than on suffering, meaning, and the therapeutic possibilities being tested around psilocybin.

Who It’s Best For

People weighing psychedelic therapy through the lens of evidence, ethics, and end-of-life distress are the clearest fit here. Clinicians and skeptics may value it when asking where psilocybin research is promising, limited, or being culturally oversold.

Approach

Clinical research supplies the organizing frame, with investigators and trial participants used to translate psilocybin studies into a therapeutic narrative. The argument is science-branded but openly affirmative, using testimony to reinforce promise more than to stage uncertainty.
