Description
Food Matters by James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch argues that modern illness cannot be separated from nutrient-poor food, chemical exposure, and a medical culture geared more toward treatment than prevention. Built around nutrition advocates, practitioners, and patients, it pushes a strongly reformist case for food quality, juicing, supplementation, and personal responsibility in health. The documentary is openly polemical, but that is also its identity: less an even-handed survey than a direct challenge to mainstream assumptions about diet, medicine, and chronic disease.

About the Director / Filmmaker
James Colquhoun and Carlo Ledesma, co-directors, come from notably different lanes. Colquhoun built Food Matters and FMTV around films, books, articles, and guided health programs, while Ledesma’s career stretches across horror, documentary, screenwriting, and creative leadership in the Philippines and Australia. That pairing makes the project a clear joint venture, combining wellness media entrepreneurship on one side with a broader contemporary screen career on the other.

Who It’s Best For
Viewers already skeptical that nutrition should sit at the margins of care are the clearest audience for this one. A second fit includes people sorting serious dietary questions from overstated natural-health claims without defaulting to the standard medical script.

Approach
An expert-led polemic shapes the film, assembling alternative-health authorities into a direct challenge to pharmaceutical and processed-food paradigms. Its rhetoric is assertive and unbalanced by design, presenting nutritional intervention as the corrective rather than a contested proposition.
